Homeland Security Director Meets With Mexican Foreign Secretary

Officials review U.S.-Mexico border issues relating to security

The U.S. Director of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge, met with Mexican Secretary of Foreign Relations Jorge Castaneda on January 11, and issued a statement that same day citing "the strong ongoing cooperation" between the United States and Mexico in defense of the two countries' shared border.

Statement By The Press Secretary

During a meeting today with Mexico's Foreign Secretary, the Director of Homeland Security, Tom Ridge, discussed the strong ongoing cooperation between U.S. and Mexican officials aimed at ensuring our shared border protects the physical security and economic well-being of both countries. Governor Ridge will lead a delegation to Mexico in early March to continue discussions with Mexico on creating a safe and smart border for the 21st century that facilitates the legitimate flow of goods and people between the United States and Mexico.
