Bill Would Change Tariff Rate on Afghan Products

H.R. 3440 would extend nondiscriminatory treatment

Representative Dana Rohrabacher (Republican of California) introduced a bill to the House of Representatives December 10 that would extend nondiscriminatory treatment to products from Afghanistan.

The proposed legislation, H.R. 3440, was referred to the House Ways and Means Committee.

Mr. Rohrabacher introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means

A BILL

To extend nondiscriminatory treatment to the products of Afghanistan.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. EXTENSION OF NONDISCRIMINATORY TREATMENT TO THE PRODUCTS OF AFGHANISTAN.

  • In General- Notwithstanding any other provision of law, nondiscriminatory treatment (normal trade relations treatment) applies to the products of Afghanistan.

  • Conforming Tariff Schedule Amendment- General Note 3(b) of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States is amended by striking 'Afghanistan'.

  • Effective Date- Subsection (a) and the amendment made by subsection (b) apply with respect to goods entered, or withdrawn from warehouse for consumption, on or after the 15th day after the date of the enactment of this Act.
