Statement By The Press Secretary

The President welcomes Japan's actions today to provide forces for surveillance, transport and other support short of direct combat operations in the war on terrorism. Japan is already playing an active role in diplomacy, information-sharing and humanitarian assistance. This newest contribution demonstrates the enduring strength of the U.S.-Japan alliance.
