這片國土是你的土地
This Land Is Your Land

        伍迪‧戈斯1940223日在紐約時報廣場附近一間旅社骯髒的客房裏寫下最後成為《這片國土是你的土地》這首歌的歌詞。據他的傳記作者喬‧克雷說,戈斯 《憤怒,灰心喪氣,為自己感到難過》,於是《向歐文‧柏林出氣》。戈斯裡給該歌冠之以《上帝曾保佑美國》的標題,每一詩節以同一詩行結尾:上帝曾為我保佑美國。戈斯裡創作這首歌是為著嘲笑而模仿柏林廣為流傳的《願上帝保佑美國》一歌。它的曲子取自卡特家族 (二十和三十年代一個頗為走紅的鄉村音樂團體) 作的歌曲《親愛的,我的夥伴》,而後者又是根據一首古老的浸禮會聖歌《哦,我親愛的兄弟》改寫而成的。

        戈斯裡創作完這首歌便將它拋諸腦後,直到1944年春才把它灌成唱片,給它以《這片國土是你的土地》的標題。這首歌受到六十年代民權運動的青睞,(與其他幾首歌一樣) 它甚至被推薦取代《星條旗》成為國歌。

    這片國土是你的土地,這片國土是我的土地

    從加利福尼亞到紐約島,

    從墨西哥灣流到紅杉林;

    這片國土是你和我而建立。

    當我漫步在蜿蜒如帶的公路,

    仰頭看見高架公路伸向無邊的天際;

    在我下方是金色的溪谷;

    這片國土是為你和我而建立。

    我漫遊四方,任腳步把我帶進

    她的沙漠閃光的沙丘;

    我的四周迴響著一個聲音:

    這片國土是為你和我而建立。

    輝煌的太陽升起,我正緩緩而行,

    看麥浪滾滾,煙雲翻捲。

    霧氣漸漸消散,一個聲音在唱吟:

    這片國土是為你和我而建立。

    世上沒有任何能阻止我前進,

    當我踏上那自由之路;

    世上沒有任何人能令我折回原地,

    這片國土是為你和我而建立。

    漫步中我看見一塊標牌,

    赫然寫著:不得入內

    但牌子的另一面卻空白無字,

    那一面是為你和我而設立。

This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York island,
From the redwood forest to the Gulf Stream waters;
This land was made for you and me.

As I was walking that ribbon of highway
I saw above me that endless skyway;
I saw below me that golden valley;
This land was made for you and me.

I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
And all around me a voice was sounding;
This land was made for you and me.

One bright Sunday morning in the shadows of the steeple
By the Relief Office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there whistling;
This land was made for you and me.

When the sun came shining, and I was strolling,
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling.
As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:
This land was made for you and me.

Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back,
This land was made for you and me.

As I went walking, I saw a sign there,
And on the sign it said, "No Trespassing,"
But on the other side it didn't say nothing,
That side was made for you and me.
