Following are the texts of a question, taken at the March 29 regular State Department briefing, on U.S. assistance with the investigation of the recent shooting of President Chen Shui-bian and Vice President Annette Lu of Taiwan, and the State Department's answer, released later in the day.

QUESTION TAKEN AT MARCH 29, 2004 DAILY PRESS BRIEFING

Question: Can you confirm that US forensics experts are aiding Taiwan authorities in their investigation of the pre-election shooting of presidential and vice presidential candidates?

Answer: We understand there is a group of forensic experts from the United States in Taiwan working with investigators concerning the shooting. To our knowledge they are assisting Taiwan authorities as private individuals. There is no U.S. government role in the investigation.
