U.S. Not Seeking Talks with Iran Regarding Its Nuclear Program
(Supports IAEA's efforts to investigate Iran's nuclear program) (190)

Washington -- The United States is not engaged in and is not seeking talks with Iran regarding its nuclear program, according to information provided by the office of the State Department spokesman July 16. U.S. policy is to support the efforts of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to investigate Iran's nuclear program, the office said.

"The United States is not engaged in and is not seeking talks with Iran regarding its nuclear program. Our policy is to fully support the International Atomic Energy Agency's ongoing efforts to investigate Iran's nuclear program. Iran's nuclear program is of concern to the international community, not just to the United States, and it is the responsibility of the International Atomic Energy Agency to monitor Iran's compliance with its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)," the office said.

On June 19, the IAEA Board of Governors concluded that Iran must live up to NPT-required safeguards obligations, and must cooperate fully with the IAEA to rectify outstanding problems and answer unresolved questions.
