Congressional Delegation to Attend Economic Forum in Jordan
(Congressional Report, June 13: Delegation Will Also Travel to Iraq) (190)

Washington -- Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Richard Lugar will lead a U.S. congressional delegation to the World Economic Forum June 21 to 22 in Jordan, and visit Iraq the following day, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee announced.

"The extraordinary annual meeting of the forum will focus on the future of the Middle East, Iraq, Arab and European geopolitics, and the prospects for global and regional business," the committee said in a prepared statement June 13.

Members of the congressional delegation plan to speak at the two-day economic forum that will be hosted by Jordan's King Abdullah II, and then travel to Baghdad on June 23 for meetings with Coalition Provisional Authority Administrator Paul Bremer to examine Iraq reconstruction efforts, according to the committee announcement.

Joining Lugar, an Indiana Republican, in the delegation -- which is the only U.S. Senate delegation traveling to Iraq in June -- will be Foreign Relations Committee ranking member Senator Joseph Biden, a Delaware Democrat, and the International Economic Policy Subcommittee Chairman Chuck Hagel, a Nebraska Republican.
