NOMINATIONS SENT TO THE SENATE OCT. 18:

President Bush October 18 sent these foreign affairs/defense nominations to the Senate:

Dale Klein, of Texas, to be Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Nuclear and Chemical and Biological Defense Programs, vice Harold P. Smith, Jr., resigned.

James David McGee, of Florida, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Counselor, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Kingdom of Swaziland.

William Schubert, of Texas, to be Administrator of the Maritime Administration, vice Clyde J. Hart, Jr.

Sichan Siv, of Texas, to be an Alternate Representative of the United States of America to the Sessions of the General Assembly of the United Nations during his tenure of service as Representative of the United States of America on the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

BUSH OCT. 17 ANNOUNCED HIS INTENTION TO NOMINATE:

The President intends to nominate Dale Klein to be Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear and Chemical and Biological Defense Programs. Klein is currently the Vice Chancellor for Special Engineering Programs and Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas. Additionally, he is the Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Amarillo National Resource Center for Plutonium. He has served with the University of Texas System since 1977, holding various positions including Associate Dean for Research and Administration for the College of Engineering and Head of Nuclear Programs at the Center for Energy Studies. Klein received his Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctorate degrees from the University of Missouri.
