White House Report: Bush Nominates Wolf for Non-Proliferation Post
(Wolf is former ambassador, senior Foreign Service officer) (280)

Washington -- President Bush announced July 18 that he intends to nominate John F. Wolf to be assistant secretary of state for non-proliferation.

Wolf, a member of the Senior Foreign Service, is an Examiner on the Board of Examiners at the Department of State and was a Special Advisor to the President and Secretary of State for Caspian Basin Energy Diplomacy.

From 1996 to 1999, he was the Ambassador for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and in 1995 he was Coordinator for the Strategic Management Initiative. He served as Ambassador to Malaysia from 1992 to 1995 and as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affairs from 1989 to 1992.

He has held a variety of other positions both in Washington and overseas and has earned several awards for his service. Wolf is a graduate of Dartmouth College.

The Office of the White House Press Secretary also announced that three other Ambassadorial nominations had been sent to the U.S. Senate:

Edmund James Hull, of Virginia, a Career Member of the Senior Foreign Service, Class of Minister-Counselor, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Yemen.

Franklin L. Lavin, of Ohio, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Singapore.

John Thomas Schieffer, of Texas, to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Australia.
