Text: Clinton to New York City September 6-8 for UN Millennium Summit

The White House announced in a statement late August 22 that President Clinton will travel to New York City on September 6 to take part in the United Nations Millennium Summit.

That Summit at the UN "is expected to be the largest gathering of heads of state and government ever held," the White House said.

The President will be present for the entire three days from September 6-8.

United Nations Millennium Summit

STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY

President Clinton will travel to New York City on September 6 to take part in the United Nations Millennium Summit. The Millennium Summit is expected to be the largest gathering of heads of state and government ever held.

The President will address the Opening Plenary Session of the Millennium Summit on September 6, and will remain in New York until September 8, when the Summit concludes. During the Summit, the President will also conduct bilateral meetings with foreign leaders.

The theme of the Millennium Summit is "The Role of the United Nations in the 2lst Century," and the Summit will provide a forum for heads of state and government to address the challenges facing the UN in the new Millennium.
