Text: United States, South Korea and Japan to Consult on N. Korea

Delegations from the United States, the Republic of Korea and Japan will meet in Honolulu, Hawaii June 29-30 to consult on trilateral coordination of policy toward North Korea, according to a June 22 statement by Philip T. Reeker, deputy spokesman for the U.S. Department of State.

STATEMENT BY PHILIP T. REEKER, DEPUTY SPOKESMAN

U.S., REPUBLIC OF KOREA, JAPAN TO MEET JUNE 29-30

Delegations representing the United States, the Republic of Korea, and Japan will meet for trilateral consultations in Honolulu, Hawaii June 29-30, 2000. Delegations of the three countries -- led respectively by Ambassador Wendy R. Sherman, Counselor of the State Department; Jang Jai-ryong, Republic of Korea Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs; and Yukio Takeuchi, Japanese Deputy Vice Minister for Foreign Policy -- will discuss a range of issues in our ongoing coordination of policy toward the DPRK.

The June trilateral meeting is part of a continuing process of close and cooperative consultations among the three countries, formalized in Hawaii in April, 1999 as the Trilateral Coordination and Oversight Group.
