USITC Approves Dumping Duties on China Apple Juice Concentrate
(Commissioners rule 5-0 that U.S. industry was injured) (180)

Washington -- The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) has voted to impose antidumping duties on non-frozen concentrated apple juice from China.

In its 5-0 final determination May 15, the commission ruled that the imports injured or threatened U.S. industry. Imposition of antidumping duties requires affirmative final determinations both from the U.S. Department of Commerce on dumping and the USITC on injury.

The Commerce Department made its determination in April, ruling that dumping did take place and calculating dumping margins up to 51 percent.

U.S. imports of non-frozen concentrated apple juice from China amounted to $29.7 million in 1998.

Dumping is the export of goods at below the price in the home market or a third market or below the cost of production. The dumping margin is the ratio of the fair-market price and the dumped price.
