STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY
Director of the National Economic Council Gene Sperling this week will lead the U.S. delegation to the World Education Forum in Dakar, Senegal. At the Forum, organized under the auspices of the United Nations, representatives from around the world will adopt a Framework for Action aimed at ensuring that every child on Earth has access to a basic education by 2015. Achieving this goal is critical to President Clinton's efforts to combat abusive child labor and to broaden participation in the benefits of the global economy. Gene Sperling will be one of the keynote speakers at the Forum. He will read a statement from the President, hold bilateral discussions with delegation leaders from other nations, and meet with citizens of Senegal to discuss the issue of education in developing countries.
