Chief civil rights enforcement agency for the federal government.
Includes key speeches, special issues publications, texts of
cases, and a newsletter. The Division's National Origin Working Group is leading an initiative to combat civil rights violations directed at individuals perceived to be of Middle East origin following the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States. A brochure about federal laws prohibiting national origin discrimination was issued in several languages in April 2001.

U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
An independent, bi-partisan agency within the executive branch responsible for
enforcement and compliance concerning elimination of employment discrimination
by private and public employers. The Web site includes a section called The Law, which posts significant laws, amendments, executive orders and Supreme Court decisions as originally passed by Congress or issued by the President. The complete texts of the laws as currently amended are located at Laws Enforced by the EEOC. U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Civil Rights Section
FBI is the primary federal agency responsible for investigating all allegations regarding violations of applicable federal civil rights laws. The mission of the Civil Rights Program is to enforce federal civil rights statutes and to ensure that the protected civil rights of all inhabitants are not abridged. The Civil Rights Program includes four sub-programs: Hate Crimes; Color of Law/Police Misconduct; Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances; and Involuntary Servitude/Slavery. The web site includes background and links to the Federal statutes relevant to these sub-programs.

U.S. Commission on Civil Rights
Monitors and reports on the status of civil rights protections. Not an enforcement agency, but evaluates federal laws and makes recommendations to the President and Congress. Site is a source of numerous publications discussing discrimination or denial of equal protection of the laws because of race, national origin, and other factors. In the wake of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States, the UCCR has launched complaint hotlines to protect rights of Arab, and Islamic communities.
