for Suspected Terrorists Meet Standards

April 11, Vienna: Amb. Stephan Minikes to OSCE Permanent Council

The rules and procedures governing U.S. military commissions for suspected international terrorists would afford impartial, full, and fair trials with appropriate due process safeguards, U.S. Ambassador to the OSCE Stephan Minikes told the Permanent Council in Vienna April 11.

Four accused of helping Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman pursue terrorism from prison

A U.S. grand jury has indicted four people for supporting and providing resources for convicted blind terrorist Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman and the organization known as the Islamic Group, Attorney General John Ashcroft announced at an April 9 news conference in New York.    Complete Text


Bush Welcomes Latest Announcement on
IRA Decommissioning

Commends de Chastelain commission for
sustaining the process

President Bush was "heartened" by the announcement on April 8 that the Irish Republican Army (IRA) had completed another act of decommissioning. White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer said that the latest action "reinforces that decommissioning is an on-going process, not a single event" toward implementation of the Good Friday Agreement for Northern Ireland. The United States urges movement on other issues central to the peace process, he added, "including the participation of all parties on the new policing board and further demilitarization."
