Text: Secretary Powell to Visit Colombia September 11-12

Meetings planned with President Pastrana and other officials

U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell will visit Colombia September 11-12 after participating in the Organization of American States (OAS) General Assembly in Lima, Peru, the State Department announced in an August 27 notice to the press.

NOTICE TO THE PRESS

SECRETARY POWELL'S TRIP TO COLOMBIA

Secretary Powell will visit Colombia September 11-12 after participating in the OAS Special General Assembly in Lima on September 10-11.

In Colombia, he will meet with President Pastrana and Government of Colombia officials in order to underscore continuing U.S. Government support for Colombia's efforts to combat the illicit drug trade, strengthen its democratic institutions, and promote economic and social development. He will also meet with other sectors of Colombian civil society.
