Senator Baucus Presses for WTO
Dispute-Settlement Reforms


Democrat views system now tilted unfairly against U.S.

Senator Max Baucus, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, has pressed the Bush administration to negotiate reforms of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Dispute Settlement Understanding, which in his view has been perverted by foreign countries to attack U.S. trade laws.

In an April 15 letter to U.S. Trade Representative Robert Zoellick, Baucus warned against going into the negotiation with narrow, technical goals. Complete Text
