-- 1978-1979: Head of the conservation and enhancement of architectural sites division at the Ministry of Culture, then at the Ministry for Capital Works;
-- 1979-1981: Geographical coordinator attached to the Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Cultural, Scientific and Technical Directorate;
-- 1981-1986: Diplomatic adviser to the President of the Republic;
-- 1986: Appointed maitre des requetes (legal adviser) at the Conseil d'Etat;
-- 1988-1991: Spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic;
-- 1991-1995: Secretary-General (Chief of Staff) for the Presidency of the Republic;
-- 1995-1996: At the Conseil d'Etat;
-- 1995-1996: Led a seminar on decision-making in foreign policy at the Ecole des hautes etudes en sciences sociales. Author of "Les Mondes de Francois Mitterrand. A l'Elysee, 1981-1995" (Fayard, 1996);
