Anatoliy Chubays

Anatoliy Chubays was born on June 16, 1955.He graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Economics and Engineering in 1977 and became a candidate of economic sciences.
He was an engineer and a faculty assistant at the Leningrad Institute of Economics and Engineering in 1977-1982, an assistant professor at the same institute in 1982-1990.
In 1990-1991, he was deputy and then first deputy of the chairman of the Leningrad City Executive Committee and a chief economic adviser of the St. Petersburg mayor.
In 1991-1994, Chubays worked as chairman of the Russian State Property Management committee and a minister of the Russian Federation.
In 1992-1994, he was also deputy prime minister of Russia.
Between November 1994 and January 1996, he was first deputy prime minister of Russia.
From November 1994 to November 1996, Chubays was chairman of the federal commission on securities and stock market of the Russian government. Until February 1996 he was also chairman of the government commission on economic reform.
From April 1995 Lo February 1996, he was Russian manager of the International Monetary Fund, the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the multilateral agency on investment guarantees.
He was deputy of the Russian State Duma between December 1993 and December 1995.
On July 15, 1996, he was appointed presidential chief of staff. In July he was also appointed a member of the Russian Defense Council. In August 1996, he became chairman of the presidential commission on state literature and art awards. In October 1996, he was named as chairman of the presidential council for relations with religious organizations.
On March 7, 1997, he was dismissed from the post of presidential chief of staff and appointed first deputy prime minister.
Chubays is vice-president of the Greater Europe international non-governmental commission.
Chubays is married. His wife is an engineer~-economist~. He has two children. His hobby is water tourism.
