Pelosi on the International Olympic Committee
Decision to Reward Beijing the Olympic Games

July 13, 2001

Now that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has rewarded the Chinese government with the 2008 Olympic Summer Games, it must ensure that the Chinese government fulfills its promise to give the media complete freedom to report on events in China and to allow the free movement of people within the country. It is incumbent on the IOC and the Games' corporate sponsors to demand that the Chinese government respect these basic freedoms at the time of the Olympics and the years leading up to 2008.
