STATEMENT BY THE PRESS SECRETARY
The President's Trip to China
The President will travel to the People's Republic of China at the invitation of Chinese President Jiang Zemin from June 25 to July 3, 1998. He will visit Xian, Beijing, Shanghai, Guilin and Hong Kong.
The President looks forward to discussing with President Jiang and other Chinese leaders the important international security, political and economic issues facing our two countries -- including stability in Asia, non-proliferation, human rights, combating crime and drugs, the environment, trade and economic reform. These discussions will build on the dialogue and initiatives launched during President Jiang's October 1997 visit to the United States. The President also looks forward to meeting with, speaking to and hearing from a cross-section of the Chinese people on issues affecting their lives.
