Text: Clinton Appoints Micek to APEC Business Advisory Council
(State Department Jan. 29 press release)President Clinton announced the appointment of Ernest S. Micek to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC) on January 28.
Micek is the Chairman of Cargill, Incorporated, an international marketer, processor and distributor of agricultural, food, financial and industrial products and services. He is also a member of the President's Export Council and a member of the U.S. Board of the Pacific Basin Economic Council (PBEC).
APEC leaders established ABAC, the private sector arm of APEC, in 1995 to advise them on issues affecting business in the Asia-Pacific region. It is comprised of up to three senior business leaders from each of the APEC economies who report annually to APEC leaders. ABAC representatives have met with APEC leaders in each summit since the creation of the council.

PRESIDENT CLINTON ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF ERNEST S. MICEK TO
THE ASIA-PACIFIC ECONOMIC COOPERATION BUSINESS ADVISORY COUNCILOn Friday, January 28, President Clinton announced the appointment of Ernest S. Micek of Edina, Minnesota, to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC).
Mr. Micek is Chairman of Cargill, Incorporated, an international marketer, processor and distributor of agricultural, food, financial and industrial products and services. He also currently serves as the chairman of the Emergency Committee for American Trade (ECAT). In addition, Mr. Micek has been appointed a member of the President's Export Council and is a member of the U.S. Board of the Pacific Basin Economic Council. Mr. Micek was born in Arcadia, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1959, with a degree in chemical engineering.
Mr. Micek joins current member Paul Song (President and CEO of ARIS Corporation) and fellow newly appointed member Sy Sternberg (Chairman, President and CEO of New York Life Insurance Company) as the three ABAC representatives.
