Text: Clinton Appoints Sternberg to APEC Business Advisory Council

President Clinton announced the appointment of Sy Sternberg to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC) on January 28.

Sternberg is chairman, president and chief executive officer of New York Life Insurance Company, an international insurance and asset management provider.

APEC leaders established ABAC, the private sector arm of APEC, in 1995 to advise them on issues affecting business in the Asia-Pacific region. It is comprised of up to three senior business leaders from each of the APEC economies who report annually to APEC leaders. ABAC representatives have met with APEC leaders in each summit since the creation of the council.

PRESIDENT CLINTON ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF SY STERNBERG
TO THE ASIA-PACIFIC ECONOMIC COOPERATION BUSINESS ADVISORY COUNCIL

On Friday, January 28, President Clinton announced the appointment of Sy Sternberg to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Business Advisory Council (ABAC).

Mr. Sternberg is chairman, president and chief executive officer of New York Life Insurance Company, an international insurance and asset management provider. He currently serves on the board of directors of the American Council of Life Insurers as well as the Business Roundtable serving on its Task Force on Health and Retirement, and International Trade and Investment. Before joining New York Life in 1989, Mr. Sternberg spent 13 years at the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company where he served as senior executive vice president.

Mr. Sternberg joins current member Paul Song (President and CEO of ARIS Corporation) and fellow newly appointed member Ernest Micek (Chairman of Cargill, Incorporated) as the three ABAC representatives.
