Institutional Organization
The individual school, postsecondary institution, or other provider is the competent authority in the United States for nearly all academic matters. There are nearly 130,000 individual institutions in the U.S. education system, including nearly 117,000 primary and secondary schools, nearly 6,000 postsecondary vocational and technical schools, and over 4,000 degree-granting institutions of higher education.
