Statement for Associate USTR Shiner
Statement from Associate USTR
for Policy and Communications Josette Shiner
concerning Japan's decision not to pursue unilateral retaliation:
We welcome today's statement by METI Minister Hiranuma confirming that Japan will not take unilateral retaliatory action in response to US steel safeguard measures.
Japan recognizes that the WTO provides the proper forum to resolve disputes.
We hope that others who have raised the possibility of unilateral action also follow the appropriate rules.
